Gyumri Information Technology Center (GTech)

While the IT industry didn’t exist in Armenia when the Gulamerians visited in 1998, it has since become a tremendous source of opportunity for young Armenians, and opportunity is at the core of what the Gulamerians wanted for Armenia’s children. Since its founding in 2005, the Gyumri Information Technology Center (GTech), which is overseen by the Fund for Armenian Relief (FAR), has empowered thousands of young Armenians in the earthquake-damaged region of northern Armenia, giving them the skills and tools needed to succeed. By providing this training in Gyumri, these young people can stay in their hometown rather than relocate to the capital, Yerevan, or even leave the country. Programs like this offer promising futures, which is why the Foundation supports this initiative.

GTech’s programs provide an in-depth understanding of new technological hardware and software, giving its participants the opportunity to gain the valuable IT training needed to compete for the most prestigious jobs in Armenia’s fast-growing IT sector. The course offerings are focused on preparing specialists with in-demand skills; supplementing primary teaching programs with short-term IT-based and programming-based courses to respond to current market demand; and promoting employment and business development opportunities by encouraging international and local investment.
