Davit Hovhannisyan, 27, a recent graduate from the Armenian State Institute of Physical Culture, has overcome many difficulties towards a Rescue Management degree (BA), simply because he believes that he can use it to benefit humanity.
FAR, through its flagship Gulamerian Vocational Training and Education Program, first helped Davit get a vocational education in 2011 then, between 2016 and 2021, supported him as he worked towards a higher education.
Launched in 1998, the Program has provided many young adults who have grown up in orphanages transition to the outside world with access to education through tuition coverage and monthly living stipends so they can gain the skills necessary to compete in the job market. Without this support, these young adults would have little opportunity to continue on to higher education and true self-sustainability.
“From a very young age, I’ve watched movies of wars, and I always wanted to rescue people in danger. Now, with my current degree, I will be able to do a lot for my compatriots and my community,” he said adding; “Serving in the special forces as a soldier has been very impactful; it has taught me the value of friendship and of life and death. And without FAR extending its hand to help me in my life-changing experience, I would have dropped out of the university,” he said.
“Scholarships help young people from orphanages, like me, stand firm against life challenges. It also paves the way towards integration into society and onto a bigger life. I’m very grateful to have been given such a chance,” he concluded.
